Games Proposal - Group Project - Childhood Memory - Lost Family Dog SketchUp Blockouts by Chris Lomax

Image
I have finished my LDD for the game (However, as posted in my previous post - I need to go back and change a few features to make it more comedic). As most of my blogs have been a wall of text talking about our ideas and discussions, I thought I'd make a separate post showing the two blockouts I have created in SketchUp. Please see them below: Garden Centre This is a sneak level (as in the previous level, in the food court. The dog makes a mess and attracts a lot of attention, meaning the security guards are on the look for a missing dog). Car Park Once the players makes it out of the Garden Centre, they entered the last level of the game which is a Car Park where they re-unite with their family.

Games Proposal - Group Project (Second Team Meeting) - Childhood Memory - Lost Family Dog by Chris Lomax

25/01/2023 Second official group meeting Group discussions We haven’t formally picked a group leader, but as I feel that I’m well organised and came up with the game idea, I have a strong vision of which direction I want the game heading. I mostly come up with spit balling ideas and see where it takes us. We discussed shortening the food court area (ever so slightly) and I will be shortening the car park area too. Talks with Sean & Ryan I spoke to Sean about my biggest fear about creating this game, which is I don’t want the game to feel like two separate games. What I mean by that is, when the player loads up the game (they will be playing the levels Sean created, which is the mall area, including the doggy care centre, the food court & a small arcade section). After progressing through that they enter my part of the levels where they take place in a garden centre and then end the game in a car park. To avoid this happening, we have spoken about our ideas, and I...

Games Proposal - Group Project (First Team Meeting) - Childhood Memory - Lost Family Dog by Chris Lomax

17/01/2023 First official group meeting Members of the group and roles Our group consists of five members: ·          Myself (Chris Lomax) - Level Designer ·          Sean Clancy - Level Designer ·          Ryan Chaney - Technical Designer ·          Dan Jolley - Environmental / Prop Artist ·          Will Anders - Environmental / Prop Artist Confirmed Project As a team we all decided that we want to create the game I came up with, which is for the “Childhood Memory” brief “Lost dog”. When I was younger, I lost my dad in a mall, and I remember trying to find him and looking for clues. For the game to be more interesting, I thought it would be a better idea if you were to play as a lost dog and one of the main mechanics would be utilizing your keen dog smell sense t...

Games Proposal - Childhood Memory - Star Wars "The Messenger" Progression Weeks 1 & 2 by Chris Lomax

Games Proposal - Childhood Memory - Star Wars "The Messenger" Progression Weeks 1 & 2 For my second brief I chose the "Childhood Memory" and wanted to create a game based on Star Wars, as my dad is a massive fan of the franchise and I use to watch it a lot with him while I was younger. On top of that, I really enjoyed playing Lego Star Wars on the computer as a child and have very fond memories of that too. As my first project was highly focused on killing enemies to progress through the level. I wanted to make this game have no killing, weapons or violence in the game and focus on world building, lore & puzzles instead. I created a pitch presentation explaining what the game is and the goal of the game. The three main mechanics are: Force Pick Up, Force Push & Force Light. So you have to use the force to progress through the level and solve puzzles. My tutors approved of it and wanted a Level Design Document (LDD) created in a weeks time, which I also c...
